Cordoba Corporation’s Managing Partner and Chief Financial Officer Maria Mehranian hosted the Armenia Fund’s 20th Annual International Telethon on Thanksgiving Day and helped secure over $12.5 in pledges to support Fruitful Artsakh, Armenia Fund’s new agricultural development program. The telethon was produced locally in Los Angeles and broadcast coast to coast and internationally from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. PST on November 23, 2017.
Proceeds from the telethon will be used to bring irrigation water to the farmers of Artsakh, introduce drip irrigation and switch farmers to cultivate high-revenue crops. Drip irrigation systems in Artsakh are anticipated to create new jobs, increase revenue for local farmers, and significantly boost the country’s gross domestic product, according to the Armenia Fund, Inc..
Established in 1994 in Los Angeles, Armenia Fund, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt, non-governmental, non-political corporation that has implemented over $120 million of infrastructure development assistance and humanitarian aid worldwide. It is the largest humanitarian organization serving the Republic of Armenia and the Artsakh Republic. Cordoba Corporation’s Maria Mehranian serves as President of the Armenia Fund, Inc.
“It was an honor to once again host this telethon for Armenia Fund,” said Maria Mehranian. “It is wonderful to see an event such as the telethon unite Armenians here in America and across the globe regardless of political, religious or other differences. This year’s focus on Fruitful Artsakh is an important initiative to help build Artsakh’s future and I was pleased to see so much support come in for this initiative through the telethon.”
“We are proud of Maria for her ongoing efforts to ‘Make a Difference’ here locally and especially in her leadership role with Armenia Fund, Inc. and this telethon,” said George L. Pla, Cordoba Corporation’s President & Chief Executive Officer. “Given Maria is a water quality expert and the past Chair of the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board, it is exciting to see her involved in this effort to bring life sustaining irrigation water to the farmers of Artsakh.”
