Cordoba Corporation Celebrates Women in Construction Week 2020!

In honor of Women in Construction Week and International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, 2020, Cordoba Corporation is celebrating some of our talented women in the construction management/support field.

Our featured employees this year are three women who recently joined Cordoba Corporation and have embraced our motto of Making a Difference in their new positions providing project support to our client, Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), as Project Advisors on SoCalGas’ Pipeline Integrity Engineering and Construction Team.

Gabriela, Juliana and Mia were recently recognized by the client for completing an incredibly challenging task that many thought was unachievable given the time constraints and other complications associated with the task.  They not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations, which resulted in messages of praise from the client to their manager here at Cordoba Corporation.  In fact, Cordoba’s Vice President for Energy Infrastructure Sam Tenorio calls Gabriela, Juliana and Mia the “Dynamic Three” for their hard work and “can-do” attitude.

We hope you enjoy learning about Gabriela, Juliana and Mia, who join all of our talented construction management and support staff in celebrating #WomenInConstructionWeek and Making a Difference for our clients and communities.

Gabriela Martinez

Gabriela is putting her experience to use as a Project Advisor supporting the SoCalGas Pipeline Integrity Engineering and Construction Team.  Prior to joining Cordoba, Gabriela worked for almost a decade in retail customer service management. In addition, she previously served as a Project Coordinator for the University of Southern California (USC) Latino Alumni Association (LAA).  Her experience at USC LAA included developing financial summary reports for presentation to the USC LAA Board of Directors and Advisory Council.  In addition, Gabriela organized and led college admission presentations for approximately 60 prospective students and their parents each year.

Gabriela is a graduate of USC, where she earned a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in International Business and a Minor in Economics.  During her time at USC, Gabriela participated in the Marshall School of Business International Exchange Program and attended Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. Gabriela has also pursued real estate studies at East Los Angeles College.

Juliana Rios

As a Project Advisor supporting the SoCalGas Pipeline Integrity Engineering and Construction Team, Juliana ensures that all documents required for construction, such as permits, traffic control plans, contracts, notifications and their supporting documents are in place.  In addition, she plays a critical role in ensuring meeting minutes, project status updates, and project decisions are appropriately documented.

Prior to joining Cordoba, Juliana worked for six years in retail management, where she gained valuable payroll, training, merchandising, customer service, inventory and general management experience.  She studied English, math and science at Fullerton College, and in high school, Juliana volunteered with the PALS program assisting special needs teenagers with computer and cooking skills.

Mia Cornejo

Mia earned her B.S. in Business Management from Grand Canyon University and her associate degree in Business/Managerial Economics from Rio Hondo College.  Prior to joining Cordoba, Mia served as a Training Coordinator at the Downey Police Department and as an Administrative Assistant at the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA).  At HACLA, Mia also worked as a Case Manager for the Los Angeles Summer Youth Employment Program.

In her role as a Project Advisor on the SoCalGas Pipeline Integrity Program, Mia is responsible for developing work scope, resource requirements, contracts, contract revisions, and schedules. She coordinates input from various departments, monitors the project progress and assists Cordoba and SoCalGas team members, with a focus on meeting deadlines and project completion.

Mia is currently in the process of applying to graduate school to pursue a Master of Public Administration. She enjoys sky diving, quad riding, shopping and attending concerts and sports events.

All three of our featured women are positive, upbeat and excited about their careers here at Cordoba Corporation!
