Cordoba Corporation congratulates the Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) on the successful groundbreaking ceremony held on May 17, 2018, for the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Sound Insulation and New Modular Classrooms Project at Beulah Payne Elementary School!  Officials from IUSD were joined by officials from the State of California, City of Inglewood and LAWA for the ceremony, along with students, community members, and representatives from IUSD’s construction partners, including Cordoba Corporation, at the event.  Cordoba Corporation serves as the district-wide construction manager for the IUSD Measure GG capital improvement program.

The project involves the removal of portable classrooms and the construction of new modular classrooms.  In addition, the project includes sound attenuation for existing classrooms.  Sound attenuation components include the installation of insulation to enhance the learning environment for the students at this site, including new acoustically rated windows, sound attenuating doors, installation of new heating and air conditioning systems to maintain a comfortable environment when the windows and doors are closed, and the addition of insulation in the ceilings to further reduce noise intrusion.

Funding for the project is provided by IUSD’s Measure GG, which was approved by the voters in 2012.  The sound attenuation portion of the project is funded by the Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which is operated by LAWA.  The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved the collection of the PFC and expenditure for this program, which fulfills a commitment made by LAWA to provide funding to IUSD for sound insulation.  LAWA is also providing technical assistance and support throughout IUSD’s implementation of the sound insulation program.

“We are pleased to reach this key milestone for this important project at Payne Elementary School,” stated Cordoba Corporation Senior Construction Manager Jessica Landon.  “Once completed, the district’s students will benefit from enhance learning environments associated with the new modular classrooms, as well as the sound insulation and noise mitigation measures at existing facilities on campus.  Cordoba’s construction management team is honored to partner with IUSD and LAWA in improving the overall educational experience for the IUSD’s students.”

Additional information about the recent groundbreaking ceremony at Payne Elementary School can be found in the enclosed LAWA Press Release.  In addition to Payne Elementary School, IUSD will also be moving forward with additional LAWA funded sound mitigation projects at Monroe Middle School, Morningside High School, and Oak Street Elementary.
