Overview
VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Extension Program will expand BART service from the current end of line at the Berryessa Station through downtown San José ending in the city of Santa Clara. Although a BART extension, the work is managed by VTA. The project is the largest infrastructure project undertaken in the Santa Clara Valley and includes a 5-mile-long single bore tunnel–the first time this configuration has been used in the United States.

Phase I was completed in 2020 and extended service from Alameda County into Santa Clara County, with stops at Milpitas and Berryessa. Phase II is currently in various delivery stages and is broken into several contract packages (CP). CP1 comprises the systems components, with CP2 including tunneling and trackwork. Four stations and a maintenance yard will be constructed under CP3 and CP4. Full operation is anticipated for 2040.
