Cordoba Corporation salutes Air Sciences, Inc. for being recognized by the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) as “Professional Services Contractor of the Year” for its leadership role on the Owens Lake Dust Mitigation Project at LADWP’s recent “Transforming Connectivity” vendor event. The Transforming Connectivity event was organized by LADWP to help promote economic development, diversity in contracting, and excellence in water and power services to the agency and residents of Los Angeles.
Air Sciences received the award for their critical role in the Owens Lake Dust Mitigation Project, a $2 billion science and construction project to control dust emissions at Owens Lake in Inyo County, California.
Since 1998, Cordoba Corporation has worked on the Owens Lake Dust Mitigation Project supporting Air Sciences and LADWP. Our involvement has spanned all phases of the project and our services have included Environmental Monitoring, Engineering and Planning, Dust and Air Monitoring, and Safety and Compliance activities, as well as providing services in support of various Demonstration Projects.
“This has been challenging project that required professionals from different companies to come together and work as a team,” said Dr. Mark Schaaf, Science Program Director at Air Sciences. “LADWP has been a wonderful client to work for. They treat us like an extension of their own staff. We are honored to receive the Professional Services Contractor of the Year award, and we are grateful to all our subcontractors who contributed to the project. We have more work ahead. The continuing drought in southern California is driving a search for new, cost-effective waterless or water-efficient methods for controlling dust on Owens Lake.”
As a long-time partner to Air Sciences on the Owens Lake Dust Mitigation Project, Cordoba Corporation congratulates Air Sciences and appreciates the recognition Air Sciences has extended to Cordoba and other members of its Owens Lake Team for contributing to the project’s success.
Cordoba Corporation’s staff has been committed to this project and the surrounding community for almost 20 years. Steve Reese, a Senior Construction Manager, is Cordoba’s longest tenured employee on the project and has seen the project evolve significantly.
When asked about his experience on this important project, Steve remarked, “I really like working on the Owen’s Lake Dust Mitigation Project because it is a noble thing… You are doing something good for the environment and the community.”
