Pathway to Success – The Pathway to Success Program is a workforce development initiative Cordoba Corporation has developed in response to heightened concerns about social justice issues that came to the forefront during summer 2020. The mission of the Pathway to Success program is to develop employable individuals from economically neglected or disadvantaged areas into valuable and successful employees for Cordoba Corporation and other participating firms. Our vision is to create an environment of support and growth that will open opportunities in the private sector for talented individuals searching for career advancement.
South LA Classic – Cordoba Corporation’s Founder and CEO George L. Pla, under his capacity as the President of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission, announced that the Coliseum will once again host a matchup of City Section football teams, giving most students a once in a lifetime opportunity to play and perform in a historical venue in front of hundreds of their friends, family, and fans. All ticket sales revenue directly went back to the athletic programs for Dorsey and King/Drew.
California State University, Los Angeles conferred an Honorary Doctorate on Cordoba Corporation’s Founder and CEO George L. Pla at the University’s commencement ceremony.
The California State University Honorary Degree is awarded and reserved to those who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary achievement and embody the objectives and ideals the California State University System and Cal State LA.
Cordoba Corporation’s Founder & CEO George L. Pla was honored for Achievement in Business & Philanthropy at the Latino Spirit Awards, hosted by the California Latino Legislative Caucus on May 2, 2022 at the State Capitol in Sacramento. The Latino Spirit Awards were created by the Latino Legislative Caucus in 2002 to highlight positive role models within our diverse Latino community. George and nine other Latino Spirit Award honorees attended a series of special events, including the Latino Spirit Awards Brunch at which honorees were presented with resolutions from Latino Legislative Caucus Chair Senator Maria Elena Durazo and Vice Chair Assembly Member Robert Rivas. Later, honorees were introduced and recognized on the Assembly Floor and in the Senate Gallery for their significant contributions.
“It was a humbling and memorable experience to join so many dedicated and distinguished Latino leaders in being honored by the Legislature with the Latino Spirit Award,” stated George L. Pla. “I am truly grateful to the Latino Legislative Caucus for this award and I appreciate the support of my family, friends, colleagues and fellow Cordoba team members. I am honored and privileged to be able to use my professional success to give back and make a difference to the community.”
Cordoba Corporation’s Founder & CEO George L. Pla had the honor of serving as the Alumni Speaker the University of Southern California’s 42nd Latinx Graduation on May 12, 2022. George encouraged the graduates and reminded them that they have an enormous competitive advantage and are extraordinarily and ideally prepared for success. He cited the graduates’ diverse backgrounds, bilingual abilities and resilience through the COVID-19 pandemic, and noted these attributes will provide the graduates with enormous strength as they move forward in this world. He shared about his journey as an immigrant and encouraged the graduates to celebrate their rich backgrounds and to be proud!

Welcome Video for New Employees – Cordoba Corporation’s Founder & CEO George L. Pla created this welcome video to share with our new Cordoba Team Members during New Employee Orientation. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we transitioned much of our onboarding process to the virtual arena. Special touches such as a Welcome Message from George and a Welcome Package are are part of our enhanced onboarding and employee engagement efforts we have implemented to create a more personalized experience. Cordoba Corporation’s Pathway to Success Program Featured on the Small Business Leadership Edge Show – The Pathway to Success program is a workforce development initiative Cordoba Corporation developed with the objective of Making a Difference in response to heightened concerns about social justice issues that came to the forefront during summer 2020. We kicked off this program with an initial set of driven and talented participants in late August 2020 and are extremely proud of our participants’ progress. Hispanic Heritage Month – Cordoba Corporation’s Founder & CEO George L. Pla was one of the featured speakers during Glendale Unified School District’s (GUSD) Adelante Latinos Hispanic Heritage Month Speaker Series. Adelante Latinos is an all-volunteer committee in GUSD to serve Hispanic/Latinx families. In his October 1, 2020, presentation, George shares about his personal and professional journey, how he started Cordoba Corporation, and his recent accomplishment of becoming a published author. He shares insights, advice and words of wisdom and responds to student questions.
Virtual Summer Socials – We decided we would not let the pandemic cancel one of our favorite traditions here at Cordoba Corporation — our Summer Socials! While we were not able to host our Summer Socials in person, we did so safely and creatively through Virtual Summer Socials! We had lots of surprises, including care packages sent to our homes in advance of the socials and creative themes for each social, including Movie Night, Luau Night, 80s Night, Camp Fire Night and Sport Night. Each evening had an engaging trivia contest and an ice breaker on the agenda. A great way to engage our team members and virtually enjoy the company of our colleagues!
Latino Leaders Magazine Maestro Awards – On Sunday, August 16, 2020, Latino Leaders Magazine aired a pre-recorded virtual Maestro Awards celebration at which Cordoba Corporation Founder & CEO George L. Pla was presented with the “Entrepreneur” Award. Sacramento Power Shift Book Event – On September 9, 2019, Cordoba Corporation Founder & CEO George L. Pla and his Power Shift – How Latinos in California Transformed Politics in America Co-Author David Ayon were joined by California elected and appointed leaders at a historic book event at the Secretary of State Building in Sacramento. Former Assembly Speaker Willie Brown, Governor Gavin Newsom and Former State Senator Dean Florez provided remarks. Former Senator Martha Escutia moderated a panel featuring seven of the 10 Latino leaders featured in Power Shift. UCLA Luskin Lecture Series Power Shift Book Event – Joined by his co-author David R. Ayon, Cordoba Corporation President & CEO George L. Long Beach Community College District Building D Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – On April 4, 2019, Cordoba Corporation joined the Long Beach Community College District in celebrating the ribbon-cutting on of Building D, which houses the Science programs at the Liberal Arts Campus. Contracted as the District’s Bond Management Team, Cordoba Corporation provides comprehensive program and construction management services in support of the capital bond program (Measure E and LB) to modernize and renovate two Long Beach City College campuses.

“Pleibol! From the Barrios to the Big League” – is set to open at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in October 2020 to coincide with the World Series. Cordoba Corporation proudly supports this upcoming exhibition as well as research, collecting and object processing related to Latino civil rights and electoral politics. The Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access produced this video about the upcoming Latinos and Baseball exhibit and it features three objects donated by Cordoba Corporation’s Executive Vice President & COO Randall Martinez’s brothers and sisters. United Nations Commission on the Status of Women Cordoba Presentation – Cordoba Corporation’s Managing Partner & Chief Financial Officer Maria Mehranian presented at the sixty-third session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women on March 11, 2019 at the UN Headquarters in New York City. Maria participated on a panel discussion focused on “Developing Infrastructure and Access to Public Services to Improve Gender Equality.” The presentation was focused on the importance of promoting, sponsoring and funding specific types of infrastructure in developing countries that enhance women’s access to capital and ultimately results in economic and social empowerment of women. Cordoba Corporation’s President & CEO George L. Pla, who received his Masters of Public Administration from the University of Southern California (USC), has been honored by the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy (Price School) as part of its year-long 90th Anniversary Celebration. George is included in a campaign highlighting notable Price School alumni (“Price Pioneers”) who are representative of the Price School’s impact and vision. The Price School has produced the enclosed video sharing featuring George noting that he exemplifies the mission of the Price School through his professional leadership and dedication to diversity.

LLC. showcasing Oakland Unified School District’s Fremont High School Redevelopment Project. In the video, Huy, who is serving as Construction Manager on behalf of Cordoba Corporation for this project, provides a construction update and discusses how we are working with local partners to ensure OUSD’s Local Business Utilization goals are being met. We are excited to see the progress for this important project to enhance the facilities and learning environment at Fremont High School!
